"Girlhood: Talking to Girls I Know and Love"
Editorial, Animation, and Book Binding"Girlhood: Talking to Girls I Know and Love" is a multimedia exploration of womanhood, familial relationships, and the shared experiences of Latina women through a collection of artfully crafted zines and an accompanying animated short film.
The core of the project features four carefully designed zines containing transcribed interviews with close friends who candidly discuss family dynamics, hyper-sexualization, gender stereotypes, and body image within the Latinx community. Each narrative is enhanced by hyper-realistic illustrations that bring their stories to life.
The core of the project features four carefully designed zines containing transcribed interviews with close friends who candidly discuss family dynamics, hyper-sexualization, gender stereotypes, and body image within the Latinx community. Each narrative is enhanced by 63 hand-drawn hyper-realistic illustrations that I created individually, demonstrating a commitment to authentic representation.
The craftsmanship extends to the physical production, as each zine was personally hand-sewn by me using different colored threads unique to each subject. The complementary animated short film further develops these themes through dynamic visual storytelling. Every frame was painstakingly rotoscoped and hand-drawn by me, resulting in a fluid, organic animation style that preserves the authenticity of the subjects' movements and expressions.
